Select Pillar 4: Motivation Strategies

[current-page:title]

As the Immunization Champion you are the primary person for guiding, encouraging, facilitating, and promoting this project to increase your practice's vaccination rates.

Options to choose from include:

Ensure sufficient vaccine inventory

Create a chart to track progress Your targeted chart is a creation of your choice for your practice to keep track on a weekly basis how you are doing in comparison with your overall goal. You can create a graph, a temperature thermometer chart, a table, a pie chart…whatever you feel will work best in getting the word out and message across and keeps consistent track of your actual progress towards your goal. We suggest posting the graph of your progress in a prominent location and updating weekly or bi-weekly so that all staff members can be motivated to promote vaccination.

Provide on-going feedback to staff on vaccination progress using email, posting notices where clinic staff will readily see, making announcements, or using a combination of strategies. Encourage, nudge, and cheer as needed to keep up the momentum.

Report upon progress at monthly Toolkit Team staff meetings. Facilitate discussion at these meetings identifying which pillar activities are working, which are not working and why, and to identify changes that need to be made.

Foster competition opportunities. Providing positive competition opportunities with team and individual acknowledgement rewards can help to create a fun-spirited environment promoting vaccination across the practice. It also allows for recognition of those individuals or teams who worked hard to promote vaccination and were key players in your success. Award ideas include: reward for highest vaccinator, team competitions, vaccination poster contest, reward for staff receiving vaccinations, etc. The Building Blocks provide competition awards and certificates you can use. These links are provided in the resource section on the right.
